@Peterburnett - this PR looks a bit messy.. - porbably because it's been sitting here a while, but any chance you could tidy this up? - would be good to see this patch land - we're runinng into some performance issues that looks like this one would fix. |

This compresses each library on access into a discrete zip, which can be moved around filesystems with less latency then the overhead on all the individual component files.
