Apart from this really helpful custom select implementation, could it possibly be enhanced to also accept user input?

Sorry for creating an issue for that, my bad.
It is actually a question concerning whether could the vue-select component also act as an input.
Meaning that, instead of selecting item/items from a given options list, to also be able to type something inside the input field.

No worries.

You can use the taggable prop to allow for options that weren't present in the dropdown. Combine that with dropdownShouldOpen function prop, you should be able to create the behaviour you want.
