Enable dropdown on typing

Hi,

My question is pretty straightforward. I would like to know if it's possible to enable the dropdown ONLY when the user starts typing. Is this some built-in feature because I spent some time and I can't seem to find something like this. Maybe there's a method to open/close the dropdown on certain actions?
