That generates call to static void System.Object::.ctor() which doesn't exist. You need to make your MethodReference to an instance method`

ilProcessor.Emit(OpCodes.Call, new MethodReference(".ctor", moduleDefinition.TypeSystem.Void, moduleDefinition.TypeSystem.Object) { HasThis = true });

Was this removed? It was working previously.
So just needs to changed for 2023.+?

It needs to be changed for all versions, System.Object has never had a static constructor. Even if it had the call at 165 is to a static method, so the push at 164 unbalances the IL stack, which would have always been a problem. I have no idea why this would have ever worked.
